While Moby Dick is considered a timeless classic, Melville’s masterpiece certainly isn’t for everyone. If you have no interest in whaling, then Melville’s sporadic chapters involving all of its processes will cause you to go insane. If, however, you’re interested in a fantastic adventure story full of memorable characters, interesting whaling facts, intense scenes of whaling, and a fascinating look into the logic behind Captain Ahab’s insanity, I cannot recommend this book enough. (Grades 9 & up)
