Atlas Shrugged was published more than 50 years ago, yet it is extremely prevalent in our current day and age. Ayn Rand takes a stand against the government’s actions for “the public welfare.” While it may sound like a callous notion, Ms. Rand uses extremely interesting points of reason and logic from her philosophy, objectivism. She occasionally hits you over the head with her ideals. Her writing style is detailed and captivating. Overall, if you wish to tackle a mountain of a book, Atlas Shrugged is sure to get you thinking about our current society. (Grades 9 & up)
